What Can You Do To Increase Your Metabolism?

Regardless of whether you are interested in burning off a few pounds or simply need extra staying power to make it through your everyday routine, the probability is very good you’ll want to increase the metabolism within your body. Your metabolism simply describes the method that your body uses to manufacture energy through the food that you take in. Try out a few of these basic steps and you might just find your metabolism taking off.

1) Increase Your Muscle Mass
Are you aware that your muscles do more that just contribute to your overall strength? They will also play a major role in increasing your ability to metabolize or create additional energy, which in turn helps to burn the excess fat in your body. If your goal is to build up your metabolism, and get it to start working to your benefit, then the first step would be to excesses enough that the lean muscle mass in your body begins to increase.  But, what is the simplest way to accomplish this? Truthfully, the most efficient way to build up tour lean muscle mass is through strength training.  The gym is obviously the best place to start.  You can begin with any number of exercises, but plain old weight training like bench presses, squats, and curls would likely give you the best results.  The idea is to force your muscles to work hard by lifting the weight.  This actually causes them to break some, but when they start to rebuild themselves again, they will come back bigger and stronger than they were before you started the weight training.

2) Keep Your Metabolism Working Constantly by Eating More!

At first, you may be thinking to yourself, “Is this a joke?”.  But in actuality, eating more meals every day is an excellent way to increase your metabolism.  If you think about it, people generally eat 3 meals a day.  In fact, the majority of us likely skip breakfast and eat only two meals a day.  This actually decreases your metabolism because your body is not constantly working to digest the food you take in and converting it to energy.  If it is not digesting, then it is just sitting there waiting, and that obviously doesn’t keep your metabolism going.  Make a goal to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day, rather than 2 or 3 big ones.  You will be taking in nearly the same amount of food, but in the first option your body will be continuously metabolizing it for energy, instead of storing it (in the form of fat) for when you need it between your 2 large meals.

3) Try to Significantly Cut Back on Your Sugar Intake

The amount of sugar in your body, primarily your blood, has a big effect on how fast your metabolism is.  When you sugar levels are uncommonly high, your body will react by extracting a lot of fat out of the food you eat, rather than let it pass through your system.  If you are more careful about the amount of sugar your take in everyday (ie. soda, candy, desserts, etc), then your sugar levels in your blood will be maintained at more healthy level.  Consequently, your body will only digest the fat in your food that is really needs to use, which in turn increases the benefit of the food you consume.

4) If You Do Not Eat Spicy Food, Then Try It

Regardless of the fact that consuming spicy foods increases your metabolism has never been proven through research.  It has always been a kind of untold belief, that spicy foods work with your body to speed up your metabolism.  In fact a lot of people swear by it, and eat spicy food on a regular basis because of it.  To date, there have been some preliminary studies that have shown some sort of link between metabolism and spicy food, but there hasn’t been enough for anyone to make it a fact.  But eating spicy food isn’t that hard and it won’t hurt you, so why not give it a try.  If you find that it is absolutely not for you, then there is always the option of more wight training.

So in conclusion, increasing your body’s metabolism will not only help you to lose some of those unwanted pounds, but it is crucial to keeping your body operating more smoothly. A good, healthy metabolism can have a positive impact on many of your body’s normals functions (ie. digestion).  Using the steps presented here on a regular basis will not just increase your metabolism, but help you have a better life through a healthy body.
